ArtSpace Vision Statement

LAKE NOKOMIS ARTSPACE – Statement of Purpose

“…We go out into the world:
~ to share the joy of God’s love
~ to open our faith community to others,
~ to work in the world for justice, healing, and peace.”
---Mission Statement of Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church

God is God of Creation and creating. Through art, we touch that part of God in ourselves and in one another.

As a community of faith in this place, we have an opportunity to share glimpses of the Creator with one another and the larger community; an opportunity to be involved in creating and experiencing the Spirit’s movement through image and form; an opportunity to be a welcoming space. We will use the language of visual arts to meet, enrich, and find common interests with one another and with our neighbors.

This project will:

  • Lift up the Creative in various art media by providing exhibit space.
  • Invite the participation of the neighborhood, that they know LNPC as a place of welcome, nurture and celebration.
  • Honor God by promoting peace, justice, and wholeness.

Process:

An ART COORDINATING TEAM (“ACT”) of no fewer than three people will be created, recommended by the congregation and appointed by the Session, to coordinate and promote exhibits. It will create guidelines for exhibits and ensure their appropriate installation and safety. Guidelines will be presented to Session for approval prior to the installation of the initial exhibit. Exhibits will be rotated no more frequently than bi-monthly. Exhibitors from both within and outside the congregation will be encouraged to participate, with the consent of the ACT. The ACT may choose to create exhibits thematically or as single/multiple artist.  The ACT will provide invitation postcards for each show/opening, and refreshments for that event.

Liability/loss insurance will be handled, by rider, on a show-by-show basis. Funds for insurance, and any other expenses, will come from funds designated prior to the opening of the exhibit (Worship Team, Fine Arts, Memorials, or other identified source).

Access to the ARTSPACE will be available at a designated Opening, during regular church office hours (by doorbell), and by appointment. A member of the ACT, or church member designated thereby, will be present during Opening/appointments whenever the office is closed.

The ACT is accountable to the Session through the Worship Team, reporting occasionally, but at least prior to any new exhibit. Session must approve all exhibits.

“Artist’s statement” to be supplied by the artist for pieces.  Work may be for sale, but any transactions are handled between the artist and purchaser.

A brochure outlining the space and project is available.
